Program Volunteer -

The core purpose of a Volunteer for GROW is always to provide support and resources to individuals returning to their communities after incarceration to help them successfully reintegrate and reduce recidivism.

Purpose of the Role: To assist individuals in their transition from incarceration to the community by providing guidance, support, and resources. Volunteers serve as positive role models, helping to create a supportive network and facilitating the development of life skills necessary for long-term success.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Mentorship and Guidance: Act as a mentor to a program participant, building a trusting and supportive relationship. This may involve meeting regularly to discuss goals, challenges, and progress.
  • Skill Development: Help participants with a variety of life skills, such as:
    • Job Readiness: Resume writing, job searching, interview preparation (including mock interviews).
    • Financial Literacy: Budgeting, opening a bank account, managing finances.
    • Education: Tutoring in basic reading, writing, computer skills, or assisting with GED preparation.
  • Resource Navigation: Connect participants with essential community resources, including housing assistance, mental health services, substance abuse treatment, and food pantries.
  • Administrative and Program Support: Assist with administrative tasks, such as data entry, organizing program materials, or helping with special events.
  • Group Facilitation: Lead or co-facilitate workshops or support groups on topics like anger management, parenting skills, or life skills.
  • Community Engagement: Represent the organization at community events or assist with outreach efforts to raise awareness and recruit new volunteers or donors.

Qualifications:

  • Commitment: The ability to commit to a specific time period (e.g., six months to a year) and meet with participants on a consistent basis.
  • Personal Qualities: A non-judgmental, empathetic, and respectful attitude. Must be a good listener and possess strong interpersonal skills.
  • Compliance: Must be willing to complete a background check and any required training, including an understanding of professional boundaries and the specific policies of the organization.
  • Minimum Age: Typically 18 or 21 years of age or older.
  • Pro-Social Behavior: Must not be under the supervision of any correctional system or program and must demonstrate a law-abiding lifestyle.

Training and Supervision:

  • Volunteers will receive comprehensive training on the program's mission, policies, and best practices for working with justice-involved individuals.
  • Ongoing supervision and support will be provided by a staff member to ensure a positive and safe experience for both the volunteer and the program participant.

Benefits of Volunteering:

  • Making a direct and positive impact on an individual's life and the community as a whole.
  • Gaining experience in the non-profit and criminal justice sectors.
  • Developing new skills and building a supportive community network.

Remote Mom Volunteer Opportunity

Remote Moms Needed for GROW Program

GROW is seeking Spirit-filled Remote Moms to support our residents. As a Remote Mom, you'll be a vital part of our ministry, dedicated to nurturing and guiding the ladies in one designated house through a Biblically-rooted approach. Your role focuses on encouragement and spiritual growth, adhering strictly to Biblical teachings in all interactions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Monthly Meal Preparation: Once a month, you'll lead and cook a meal with the ladies in your designated house. GROW will cover all food costs.
  • Bi-Weekly Check-ins & Activities: Every other week (alternating with Christi's visits), you'll connect with the residents. This includes:
    • Leading Bible studies.
    • Facilitating arts and crafts activities.
    • Engaging in both individual and group communication with the ladies.
    • Text or call check-ins are also acceptable.
  • Confidentiality & Safety: Uphold the highest standards of confidentiality. Residents are not required to share their past with you. Any information shared is strictly confidential and must not be disclosed to anyone outside the resident and Remote Mom relationship, including other ministry members, family, or church members. This is crucial for maintaining a safe environment for all residents.
  • Reporting & Boundaries:
    • Immediately contact Christi or Lorrie if you observe any concerns regarding an individual or the house. Do not take matters into your own hands.
    • Do not involve outside parties (personal or external entities) without prior approval, unless there is an immediate threat of harm to self or others. In such cases, contact Christi or Lorrie immediately.
    • You are not authorized to pay bills, transfer money, or purchase items for residents. Please inform Christi or Lorrie if you are approached with such requests.
    • Do not discuss house matters or residents with anyone outside the specific house or with residents of other GROW houses.

Important Guidelines:

  • No drugs or alcohol are permitted.
  • No men are allowed in the house without prior approval from Christi or Lorrie.
  • Please inform Christi or Lorrie of your planned visit dates and times in advance.
  • No animals are allowed in the houses.

We are looking for individuals who are committed to living out their faith and providing compassionate, Biblically-sound support to the ladies in our program.
