Healing Through Trauma-Informed Care
GROW Health recognizes that the journey toward a new future for the women we serve is often shadowed by the pervasive impact of trauma. Rooted in childhood experiences and intensified by incarceration and the challenges of re-entry, trauma is a near-universal factor in the lives of justice-involved women. Many have endured homelessness, trafficking, and physical or sexual abuse both before and after their time in the justice system.
GROW Health actively addresses the effects of trauma through a multi-faceted approach:
- Mental Health Support: We prioritize access to professional mental health services, including coordinating appointments and providing transportation.
- In-House Support: Women benefit from peer-led support groups facilitated by a former Department of Corrections professional, fostering a sense of understanding and shared experience.
- Resilience Building: We focus on nurturing healthy resilience through mutual support, faith-based engagement, and the strength of community.
- Strategic Partnerships: Collaborations with organizations like Johnson County Mental Health and Valued Unconditionally Therapy expand the resources available to our clients.
- Trauma-Informed Practices: Our daily operations are guided by trauma-informed and trauma-specific principles, creating a safe and supportive environment.
- Recovery Support: We facilitate access to Narcotics Anonymous and Alcoholic Anonymous programs through our partnership with Doolittle Harrington.
